Live Virtual Reading of Shakespeare’s Venus and Adonis or The Rape of Lucrece by Lise Bruneau

  • About the Artist

Lise Bruneau is a huge fan of and sometime collaborator with Arena Stage, having performed in Junk, The Heiress, Watch on the Rhine, Mother Courage, and Karen Zacarias’ gorgeous Legacy of Light.  Lise resides in DC, where her local performing credits include Eureka Day at Mosaic; Hamlet and Othello at Shakespeare Theatre; This and The Book Club Play at Round House; and Brighton Beach Memoirs, Mikveh, (both HH nominations) and Broken Glass for Theater J. She recently appeared on Broadway in Cherry Orchard with Diane Lane, and in theatres across the country in such plays as Sweat, The Revolutionists, Threepenny Opera, and Heartbreak House (Henry Award, Denver). Directing credits include Measure for Measure, 4,000 Miles, Savage in Limbo, Hamlet; and for Taffety Punk, the Riot Grrrls' productions of Shakespeare and many others – where she recently fulfilled a Bucket List dream and performed the role of Iago.  Lise trained at RADA, and is proud to be a Taffety Punk.

  • Live Virtual Reading of Shakespeare’s "Venus and Adonis" or "The Rape of Lucrece"

These utterly delicious and underappreciated masterpieces of Shakespeare are seldom heard, and are an absolute delight to enjoy live and out loud. Either offering would occur on a Zoom platform for as many of your friends as you would like to invite, with a free option to record. Venus should take about an hour (more if chat is involved, which would be lovely!), and Lucrece 1:45 or so, during which we could break or not. The reading could occur on one occasion (which I think is the best way to experience them), or over the course of two segments. Dates will be agreed upon by Lise and the purchaser, with a minimum of two weeks preparation time from the date of booking. Both of these poems are straight up gorgeous: not boring at all. Venus is sexy as all get out, and Lucrece is an astonishingly early #MeToo story that is all too relevant 400 years after it was written.

    Cost:

    Venus - $500
    Lucrece - $750
