Accessibility

Accessible parking is available in our garage starting at $40 ($22 for subscribers) and requires a valid disability parking placard or license plate. We recommend calling our Box Office (202-488-3300) to reserve your spot in advance.

Valet parking is provided to our patrons with accessibility needs who have paid for parking in advance, starting one hour before showtime. Simply pull up at the main entrance to Arena Stage on Sixth Street SW and a valet attendent will assist you. For guests without accessibility needs, valet parking is $40.

Our open layout makes navigation straightforward, with accessible entrances at our main doors and all three theaters. Elevators connect all lobby levels all the way up to our terrace level, and accessible restrooms are available on every floor.

We're happy to provide courtesy wheelchairs (ID is required to be loaned out) to help you move through the building. If you would like assistance, please let us know ahead of your visit and we'll have someone ready to help.

In all three of our theaters, we offer both wheelchair-accessible seating (marked with a wheelchair symbol on our seating maps) and companion seats (marked with a star).

You're welcome to either stay in your wheelchair/mobility device or transfer into a theater seat—whichever is most comfortable for you. Both options can be reserved online or through our Box Office (202-488-3300). If you know whether you'll be transferring before you arrive, please tell us in advance!

Closed captioning is powered by Globetitles. It is available for select Arena Stage performances, following the production's official Opening Night—usually 1 to 2 weeks into the production's run. Patrons can access Globetitles on their personal devices by checking in with our Visitors Services desk, where you can also borrow a tablet.

Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) amplify the sound onstage into provided headphones. ALDs do not feed sound directly from the actors' microphones, rather they pick up sound from throughout the theater. The devices may be used in any seat, any theater, and any performance. Headsets with induction neck loops are available for patrons who use hearing aids and cochlear implants with a "T" switch. ALDs and headsets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis from the Visitors Services desk.

The Script Loan Program is available for patrons who find that reading the play before attending improves their experience. Arena Stage can mail you a copy of the script prior to your performance.

Audio Description is a carefully timed narration of the onstage visual elements in the performance, including the action, costumes, and scenery. Program notes are available in the theater 10 to 15 minutes before show time. The description is broadcast live simultaneously via an inconspicuous FM receiver. Patrons may pick up their receiver and headset at the Visitors Services desk.

This service is prescheduled on select Saturday matinee performances. If you would like to request an additional audio described performance, please contact access@arenastage.org at least 2 weeks prior to the proposed performance date to accommodate for describer availability.

Large-Print and Braille Programs are available starting one week after the production's first performance and may be picked up, free-of-charge, from the Visitors Services desk. If a large-print or braille program is not available at your performance, you can request one be mailed to you after the performance.
