Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson must crack the mystery of “The Hound of the Baskervilles” before a family curse dooms its newest heir. Watch as our intrepid investigators try to escape a dizzying web of clues, silly accents, disguises and deceit as five actors deftly portray more than 40 characters. Does a wild hellhound prowl the moors of Devonshire? Can our heroes discover the truth in time? Join the fun and see how far from elementary the truth can be.

“In Baskerville, I have tried to stretch the genres of comedy and mystery by taking a story that plays out on a large scale – in railway stations, on the Devonshire moors, on London streets and in baronial mansions – and creating it with five actors playing more than 40 roles. Comedy is becoming too dependent on literal sets and specific costumes. It feels to me that it needs some air. My hope is that the play will speak to the raw, creative joy of being in a live theatre and telling a compelling story in a wildly new way.” – Ken Ludwig


Stanley BahorekSTANLEY BAHOREK (Actor One) is making his Arena Stage debut with Baskerville. Broadway/off-Broadway he has appeared as Leaf Coneybear in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Benjamin Britten in February House (The Public), Queen of the Mist by Michael John LaChiusa and See Rock City (Transport Group), Inventing Avi (Abingdon Theatre) and The Explorers Club (Manhattan Theatre Club). In Washington, D.C. he has performed at The Kennedy Center and Ford's Theatre (DeafWest's Big River). Other highlights include Mozart in Amadeus (The Alley), Candide in Candide (5th Avenue), and recently the new musicals Amazing Grace, Honeymoon in Vegas and Nerds (Barrymore nomination). He made his NYC directing debut with the new play Act Normal, and this past year wrote and directed his first film, Honey, I'm Home. Stanley is a founding member of Broadway in South Africa and a teacher for TDF's Accessibility Program. Graduate of The University of Michigan. @stanleybahorek

Michael GlennMICHAEL GLENN (Actor Two) returns to Arena Stage, having previously appeared in Good People. Michael is a D.C.-based actor who has performed on dozens of stages in the Washington area. A few favorite past productions include Cat's Cradle, The Hothouse and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (Longacre Lea); Clybourne Park (Woolly Mammoth); THIS (Round House Theatre); Henry VIII, Arcadia (Folger Theatre); Absolutely [Perhaps] and A Flea in Her Ear (Constellation) and The Lieutenant of Inishmore (Signature Theatre). Michael also does work on audio books for Graphic Audio, where he has performed as The Flash, Sinestro and Namor, as well as a host of cowboys, outlaws, mutants and magicians. Michael can be seen next in Studio Theatre's Jumpers for Goalposts.

Lucas HallLUCAS HALL (John Watson) makes his Arena Stage debut with Baskerville. His off-Broadway credits include Tales from Red Vienna (Manhattan Theater Club); Beyond the Horizon (Irish Rep); The Merchant of Venice, Othello and All's Well That Ends Well (Theater For a New Audience); Edward the Second (Red Bull Theater); and The Hasty Heart (Keen Company). Regionally, he has performed across the country in world-premieres and classics at The Goodman, The Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse, Chicago Shakespeare Theater and Westport Country Playhouse, among others. TV credits include Elementary (not playing Watson) and the upcoming untitled Steve McQueen pilot for HBO.

Jane PfitschJANE PFITSCH (Actress One) makes her Arena Stage debut with Baskerville. She appeared on Broadway in the current revival of Cabaret with Alan Cumming, Les Liaisons Dangereuses at Roundabout Theatre Company and in the 2007 Tony Award-winning revival of Company, directed by John Doyle. Off-Broadway credits include Allegro at Classic Stage Company, The 39 Steps at New World Stages and Pumpgirl at Manhattan Theatre Club. Other collaborations with John Doyle include Merrily We Roll Along at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and Ten Cents a Dance at Williamstown Theatre Festival and McCarter Theatre Center. She received an IRNE Best Actress nomination for Educating Rita at Huntington Theatre Company and has worked at many other regional theaters, including Actors Theatre of Louisville, San Jose Rep and the Alley Theater in Houston, TX. Film and TV credits include 27 Dresses and Elementary. Jane studied at the Brown/Trinity MFA program.

Gregory WooddellGREGORY WOODDELL (Sherlock Holmes) makes his Arena Stage debut. He is an Affiliated Artist with the Shakespeare Theatre Company where he has performed over the past 15 years, including productions of As You Like It, The Importance of Being Earnest, An Ideal Husband, Twelfth Night, Comedy of Errors, Othello, Lady Windermere's Fan, Cyrano, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Don Carlos, Richard II, Merchant of Venice, Country Wife and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Gregory's Broadway credits include Cymbeline and the world premiere of Nicky Silver's The Lyons. Regional highlights include the world premiere of Terrence McNally's Some Men (Philadelphia Theatre Company), the world premiere of David Grimm's Miracle at Naples (Huntington Theatre), the American premiere of Peter Whelan's School of Night (Mark Taper Forum) and the title role in Henry VIII (Chicago Shakespeare Theater). TV highlights include Person of Interest, 30 Rock and The Good Wife. Gregory is a graduate of the The Juilliard School.


KEN LUDWIG (Playwright) is an internationally acclaimed playwright who has had numerous hits on Broadway, in London and throughout the world. His first play on Broadway, Lend Me a Tenor, won two Tony Awards and was nominated for seven. He has also won two Laurence Olivier Awards, two Helen Hayes Awards, the Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America and the Edwin Forrest Award for Services to the American Theatre. His work has been commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Bristol Old Vic and his plays have been performed in over 30 countries in more than 20 languages. His play Shakespeare in Hollywood premiered at Arena Stage and won the Charles MacArthur Award for outstanding new play. He has written over 20 plays and musicals, including Crazy for You, which won the Tony and Olivier Awards for Best Musical, Moon Over Buffalo starring Carol Burnett and Lynn Redgrave, Twentieth Century starring Alec Baldwin, The Fox on the Fairway, Leading Ladies and The Beaux' Stratagem. In Washington, Ken's plays have been produced at the Kennedy Center, as well as the Shakespeare Theatre Company, Signature Theatre, Ford's, Round House, Olney and Adventure Theatre. His latest book How to Teach Your Children Shakespeare is published by Random House. Ken is a Sallie B. Goodman Fellow of the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, and he holds degrees from Harvard, where he studied music with Leonard Bernstein, Haverford College and Cambridge University.

AMANDA DEHNERT (Director) returns to Arena Stage after directing The Fantasticks (2009/10 season). In Washington, she also directed the staged reading of The Two Gentlemen of Verona: A Rock Opera for the Shakespeare Theatre Company. Other regional credits include All's Well That Ends Well, Julius Caesar and Into the Woods for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Richard III for the Public Theatre mobile Shakespeare unit and Cabaret for the Stratford Festival. She has written and composed The Verona Project, (world premiere, California Shakespeare Theatre) and Peter Pan: A Play (Lookingglass Theatre Company). Her production of My Fair Lady has been performed at Trinity Repertory Company, Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Cleveland Play House, Virginia Stage Company and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Amanda has served as both associate and interim artistic director at the Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, RI, where she directed over 20 productions. She is an associate professor of theatre at Northwestern University.

DANIEL OSTLING (Set Designer) returns to Arena Stage after working on productions of Metamorphoses and The Arabian Nights. Other D.C. credits include Candide (Helen Hayes Award), Argonautika and Pericles at the Shakespeare Theater Company. New York credits include Clybourne Park (Broadway/Tony nomination), La Sonnambula and Lucia di Lammermoor (Metropolitan Opera), The Glorious Ones (Lincoln Center), Durango (The Public), The Pain and the Itch (Playwrights Horizons), Metamorphoses (Broadway/Tony nomination & Second Stage), Measure for Measure (New York Shakespeare Festival), and The Arabian Nights and Galileo Galilei (BAM). He has worked at numerous regional theaters including the Goodman, Steppenwolf, Berkeley Rep, A.C.T. (SF), Long Wharf, McCarter, Huntington, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, La Jolla Playhouse, Mark Taper, Seattle Rep and The Alley, among others. Internationally, he recently premiered Carmen with K-Ballet in Tokyo. His work has also been seen in London and in Australia. Daniel is an ensemble member at Lookingglass Theatre Company in Chicago and teaches at Northwestern University.

JESS GOLDSTEIN (Costume Designer) made his Arena Stage debut with the musical Tintypes in 1979 which transferred to Broadway the following year. Other selected Broadway and New York credits include On the Town; Jersey Boys; Newsies; Proof; How I Learned to Drive; Take Me Out; Love! Valour! Compassion!; and Buried Child. He was the recipient of the 2005 Tony Award for The Rivals and was also nominated for Tonys for Henry IV with Kevin Kline and the Merchant of Venice with Al Pacino. Jess also designs opera, most notably Il Trittico for the Metropolitan Opera and his film designs include Tony Goldwyn's A Walk on the Moon. He is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama and has taught costume design there since 1990. Jess was the 2012 winner of the Michael Merritt Award for Excellence in Design and Collaboration and is the 2015 recipient of the Irene Sharaff Award for Lifetime Achievement.

PHILIP S. ROSENBERG (Lighting Designer) makes his debut at Arena Stage with Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery. Philip has also designed at the Shakespeare Theatre Company and the Kennedy Center. Broadway credits include The Elephant Man, It's Only a Play and A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. Off-Broadway credits include The Explorers Club and Cactus Flower. Other regional theater credits include works at La Jolla Playhouse, Ford's Theatre, The Old Globe, TheatreWorks, Huntington Theatre Company, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Manhattan School of Music, Portland Stage Company, TACT, Barrington Stage Company, Hartford Stage, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Dorset Theatre Festival, Bay Street Theatre, Two River Theatre Company, George Street Playhouse and Westport Country Playhouse. Philip has served as associate lighting designer of more than 35 Broadway plays and musicals.

JOSHUA HORVATH and RAYMOND NARDELLI (Sound Designers) are making their Arena debuts. Horvath and Nardelli are award winning Chicago-based sound designers, composers and music producers. Some of their favorite designs/compositions include The Jungle Book (Goodman Theatre, Huntington) The Long Red Road (The Goodman), Clay (Lincoln Center 3), Into the Woods (Oregon Shakespeare), The Verona Project (California Shakespeare), Eastland (Lookingglass Theatre), Gypsy (Chicago Shakespeare), Lookingglass Alice (McCarter, Alliance, New Victory, Arden) and Man of La Mancha (Long Wharf). They have won eight Chicago Joseph Jefferson Awards, and an LA Ovation Award. Josh and Ray are part of Lookingglass Theatre, and collaborative partners with the Goodman Theatre. They also own Aria Music Designs, LLC., a sound design and rental company for theatre, film and multi-media.

GILLIAN LANE-PLESCIA (Dialect Coach) returns to Arena where she previously coached Molly Sweeney. Recent Broadway credits include A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, War Horse, Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Off-Broadway credits include Indian Ink. Recent regional productions include Amazing Grace and The Most Happy Fella. She has coached at the Shakespeare Theatre Company, Center Stage, Classic Stage, Clurman Theatre, Goodman, Guthrie, Hartford Stage, Huntington, Long Wharf, McCarter, Milwaukee Rep, NJ Shakespeare, Old Globe, Playmakers Rep, Seattle Rep, Steppenwolf, Yale Rep, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Banff Center for Fine Arts and she was formerly English diction coach for Lyric Opera of Chicago. She teaches at The Juilliard School. Her popular series of self-teaching dialect programs for actors are used worldwide.

THOMAS SCHALL (Fight Director) makes his Arena Stage debut. In New York Tom has served as fight director on over fifty Broadway shows. Among them, Romeo and Juliet, Of Mice and Men, War Horse, Death of a Salesman, Venus in Fur, This Is Our Youth, A View from the Bridge and Wicked. He has also worked extensively at the Public Theater (Hamlet, King Lear, Titus Andronicus, Mother Courage), Lincoln Center Theater (Disgraced, Blood and Gifts, Dessa Rose) and the Met Opera (Nozze di Figaro). In Tom's five years in Washington D.C., he was a member of the resident acting companies of The Round House Theatre and the original Folger Shakespeare Theatre. He was a recipient of the Helen Hayes Award (outstanding lead actor) for his performance of Eddie in Fool for Love.

ALISON COTE (Stage Manager) returns to D.C. having recently stage managed The Winter's Tale at the Shakespeare Theatre Company. In her 19th season at McCarter Theatre, highlights include The White Snake directed by Mary Zimmerman; Danai Gurira's The Convert directed by Emily Mann; Fetch Clay, Make Man directed by Des McAnuff; A Midsummer Night's Dream directed by Tina Landau; Christopher Durang's Miss Witherspoon; Sorrows and Rejoicings directed by Athol Fugard; and Stephen Wadsworth's adaptations of The Figaro Plays. Other credits include Edward Albee's Me, Myself & I at Playwrights Horizons; Tarell Alvin McCraney's The Brother/Sister Plays at The Public Theater, Second Stage, Old Globe, Goodman, Paper Mill, Kennedy Center, Long Wharf, Center Theatre Group, Berkeley Rep, Bard Summerscape, Pittsburgh Public, Williamstown; and 14 productions with The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey.

KURT HALL (Assistant Stage Manager)'s favorite Arena credits include Our War, The Shoplifters, Smokey Joe's Café, Mother Courage and Her Children starring Kathleen Turner; Maurice Hines is Tappin' Thru Life; Good People; Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins starring Kathleen Turner; The Normal Heart; Red; Ruined; every tongue confess starring Phylicia Rashad; Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies; Looped starring Valerie Harper; Next to Normal starring Alice Ripley; Awake and Sing!; and The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?. Broadway credits include Holler If You Hear Me, Disgraced, Casa Valentina, The Snow Geese, The Trip to Bountiful, Orphans, Doubt, Rabbit Hole, Grace, Dead Accounts, The Other Place, Seminar, The Columnist, Stick Fly, Good People, Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo, The House of Blue Leaves, Fences, Lend Me a Tenor, Royal Family. They have cast scores of plays and musicals for theaters including Manhattan Theatre Club, Second Stage Theatre, Atlantic Theater Company, The Old Globe, LCT3, Williamstown Theatre Festival (three seasons), ARS NOVA, The Goodman Theatre, Ford's Theater and American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.
