From Scarcity to Abundance: Capturing the Moment for the New Work Sector

Where are we now in the new works sector? Where are we headed? Where do we want to go? And how do we – artists, producers, presenters, development labs – together build toward that future?

On January 26-29, 2011 The American Voice New Play Institute hosted over 100 new works representatives from around the country for a convening of epic proportions! At the convening, participants discussed the rich and vital activity that already exists in the new play sector, explored the gaps and challenges that face the field, and strategized means of continued and closer collaboration to advance the new work infrastructure.  This convening was built on the reports, outcomes, and initiatives that have emerged out of last year’s convenings: “Defining Diversity,” “Black Playwrights: The Stories We Tell,” and “Devised Work.”

This convening was made possible through the generous support of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation
and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
