Activity Descriptions

Fourth Daily

Musical Theater (8-10) Matthew

Calling all young stars! We’ll learn the key points and beginning skills of musical theater while we grow with one another and share the stage. As the Wildcats say, “We’re all in this together!”

Animal Art (8-12) Emily L.

Do you love beasts that prowl through the savannah, colorful creatures of the rainforest, and mysterious ocean-dwellers? We will draw, trace, paint and make collages of animals that live all over the globe, starting in their own backyards. This Daily celebrates favorite animals, ugly animals and even balloon animals!

Mosaics & Tiles (8-12) Jen

In this Daily we will travel through time to explore the ancient art of mosaics. We will use a variety of materials including shiny glass stones, beautiful ceramic tiles, colorful plastics, and other found objects to construct our mosaic creations.

Stylo (8-12) Lizzie

An old favorite returns: STYLO is back in a big way! Style is part of who you are! We will make our own shirts and accessories, revamp old clothes and make some new ones!

Claymation (8-12) Bobak

Make a model, take a picture. Move the model, take another picture. Repeat until you have a movie! Claymation has a handmade quality that just can't be matched by computers. Get inspired by films like Para Norman, Wallace and Gromit or The Nightmare Before Christmas and then bring your creativity (and patience) to camp as we create our own Claymation short!

Junk Percussion (8-12) Dave

A CAS favorite! Learn serious percussion skills while you beat buckets, bang on trashcans and pound on plastic. Create a group performance that is as exciting to see as hear.

Improvisation (8-12) Matt

Welcome to theater unscripted!  With your fellow actors, listen, agree and think on your feet to make theater in the moment.  Get ready for games and then go beyond!

Contemporary Dance (8-12) Laura

In this Daily for beginners, we explore the body and how it moves through space to express stories and emotions.  We’ll have you dancing on stage by the end of the session and ready to dance the rest of your life!

Surprise Squad (8-15) Nora G.

Surprise Squad is back!  In this Daily take part in one of the greatest arts: planning and practicing random acts of kindness.

Chinese Brush Painting & Calligraphy (12-15) Erin

Explore another culture through one of its traditional art forms.  Learn the ancient art of calligraphy and traditional painting styles.  Make exquisite works of art incorporating these techniques and poetry. Campers returning to this Daily advance to more difficult projects.

CAS Newscast (12-15) Anthony

Washington is the news capital of the nation. Learn what it takes to be a nightly news anchor or reporter. Film, produce and edit news packages and documentary features. The next-generation news-team starts here.

Recording Studio (12-15) Be

Are you a songwriter or musician? Ready to record your first (or next!) album?  Work on your craft and learn how to record and produce your own music.

Beatles Invasion (12-15)

Why did America go crazy over The Beatles?  Why do your parents still sing along with Beatles songs?  Find out in this Daily devoted to the Fab Four and their huge repertoire of favorites.  From “Help!” to “Sergeant Pepper” to “Hey, Jude” to the White Album, you and your friends will enjoy travelling back in time to explore some of the most popular songs of the 20th century.

Stage Combat (12-15) Raymond

Under the supervision of a certified stage combatant, learn the careful movements and choreography that create the illusion of brawls on stage.  Safety and the ability to follow directions are a must for campers in this Daily.  Wear clothes for movement.

Directing the Short Play (12-15)

Welcome to the directing lab. As a theater ensemble we will direct and perform 1 to 10-minute plays, serving as actors and directors for one another. Use the techniques and language of theater professionals to experience two sides of theater in one Daily.

Contemporary Dance (12-15) Michael

Ever wanted to learn modern and jazz dances like you see on "So You Think You Can Dance"?  Well, now is your chance.  Learn movement principles and choreography in both dance genres. Wear bare feet and comfortable clothing. Intermediate and advanced levels.
