Programs. Arena Stage does not offer any

AccessAbility/House
Management – The apprentice works with
the House Management Coordinator/AccessAbility
Director to gain experience in audience
development and services Arena Stage offers for
patrons with disabilities.
Communications
Marketing - This position offers an opportunity
to assist the Marketing staff in implementing
creative audience-building initiatives,
including a variety of administrative tasks and
special projects.
Media Relations - This position offers an
opportunity to assist in creating and
implementing initiatives to garner press
coverage for the theater’s programs and
productions, including a variety of
administrative tasks and special projects
Development/Fundraising
– This position assists in all areas of
fundraising for a large not-for-profit theater:
developing and maintaining corporate and
individual donors, planning and implementing
campaigns, and working on special events.
Executive Director
– This opportunity encompasses gaining
experience in areas such as general management,
fundraising, budget analysis and monitoring,
contracts, board relations, and corporate and
foundation research.
Finance/Personnel –
This is an opportunity to gain experience in
budget preparation and tracking, accounts
payable, payroll, cash receipts, employee
benefits, personnel, and internal and external
financial reporting.

Directing (not
available during the summer) – This position
provides an opportunity to observe and assist
the director throughout the rehearsal period,
attends production meetings and supports the
artistic process. The selected applicant works
on one or more shows of an eight-play season.
Dramaturgy/Literary
Management – This is an opportunity
to gain administrative and practical experience
in dramaturgy and literary management,
critiquing scripts, conducting research,
preparing actor packets and more.
Production – This
position assists the Production Manager,
Production Office Manager and Company Manager.
This is an opportunity to gain experience in
contract information, production management and
the general operation of the Production office.
Production/Casting
– This position assists the Producing Artistic
Associate and the Casting Director. This is an
opportunity to gain experience in contracts,
line producing, casting, and artist-theater
relations.

Costumes – This is
an opportunity to gain experience in all areas
of work in the costume shop including sewing,
shopping, pulling items from stock, and running
crew. Applicants must have good sewing skills
and a basic knowledge of costume history and
costume vocabulary.
Lighting – The selected applicant will work alongside some of the top Lighting Designers in the field. The Lighting Intern or Fellow will act as the resident assistant for all lighting designers during their residency at Arena Stage and will assist the Master Electrician and Staff Electricians in the planning, implementation and maintenance of the lighting designs and systems. Applicants must have a basic knowledge of theatrical lighting, CAD drafting, common office software and theatrical lighting equipment.
Sound – This
position supports the sound department in the
design, building and running of audio materials
for rehearsals and performances, and assists in
the setup/installation of related systems. A
basic knowledge of audio electronics and
recording materials is necessary.
Stage Management –
Selected applicants work in support of the Stage
Management team in the supervision of
rehearsals, performances, and other related
activities. The position works on one or more
shows of an eight-play season.

The Community Engagement Division’s purpose is
to build a future for the American theater by
cultivating future theater professionals,
attracting new audiences and enriching theater
education in the schools and in the community at
large. Candidate must be committed to arts
education and community involvement, be a strong
teacher, a strong writer, a theater artist and
an administrator. Additionally, candidates must
have excellent communication skills, computer
literacy, attention to detail, knowledge of
theater and a passion for working with people.
In addition to programs listed in the
description, full-season positions also work
closely with Moving Stories, Voices of Now and
Professional Development for Teachers, which
provide experience in classroom teaching,
workshop preparation and leading, program
administration and community involvement.
Community Engagement
Program – Season: This position assists
the director of education with administering
education programming in the schools, community
and Arena Stage. This position focuses primarily
on Arena’s Student Playwrights Project, which
includes a residency program, teacher training,
master classes, a competition and performances.
Education Program –
Season: This position assists the
director of education with student/teacher
workshops, in-school residencies, student study
guides, curriculum connections for teachers and
post-show visits to schools accompanied by
actors. This position is responsible for the
management of our school partners who come to
see Arena Stage shows.
Camp Arena Stage – Summer:
This position assists with the preparation for
and day-to-day operation of Camp Arena Stage (a
multi-arts day camp), focusing on administrative
tasks. This high-energy position requires
superior interpersonal and communication skills,
attention to detail, multi-tasking abilities and
genuine interest in young people.
Community Engagement
Interns (2) – Summer: This position is
shared by two interns who split their time
equally between education programming,
specifically researching and writing Arena’s
Page, a student study guide, and teaching at
the summer camp. Candidates must be excellent at
and have a passion for research, writing and
teaching for young people. Positions gain
excellent work and teaching experience, in
addition to professional items for a writing
portfolio.
