Arena Stage, an award winning regional theater now in its 59th season, seeks an experienced First Hand. This hourly position runs August through June 2010 and is eligible for health and vacation benefits. This position reports to the Costume Shop Director.
Responsibilities:
Assist and take notes in fittings; prepare mock-ups; supervise overhire stitchers; pattern-making, cutting, and construction of theatrical costumes.
Requirements:
Knowledge of industrial and home sewing machines; mastery of stitching; basic pattern-making; demonstrated ability of a wide range of clothing construction methods, alteration methods, and tailoring; knowledge of costume history; and a minimum of two years experience in the costume shop of a professional theater; basic computer skills. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Overtime and weekend work required. Preference will be given to early applicants.
